I am wishing you all a very Happy New Year. May it be blessed with health, joy, peace, luck, enough money, success in your career and all what you wish.

I want also to say "Thank you"  for your support in 2009.

There is a new figurative painting to show

I already have my first painting of a young child sitting at a river completed in 2010. It is painted on Aquabord in watercolor, size is 11x14".

Young girl with blonde hairs sitting at the water with wet feet - watercolor painting

This little girl with her pink dress and pink shoes sits at a river and she got wet feet.

For our Christmas exchange with some artists friends on Artcolony I painted our black cat "Timmi". The reference photo of Timmi was done some days before we lost him. It was the first time that I painted him. This painting went to Kay in USA and she told me that she loves the painting very much. So my surprise for her was perfect.

The painting is around 9x12 and painted in watercolor on Reeves Watercolor Board.

I also finished finally my figurative painting of "Ines". It is also watercolor, painted on Fabriano Watercolor paper, size is: 12x24".

If you are searching for some special art please keep in mind that I do take commissions. Since all other commissions for Christmas are completed I am having free time to take new commissions, if this is for a Rose or Flower painting, a portrait or a pet portrait or whatever you want. Black Cat and a small woman head study

girl with brown curls - watercolor painting - fine art

The  small woman head study was painted on 340 Lb coldpressed paper. I just wanted to try how this paper works. I painted already some flowers on this paper, but I really wanted to figure out how it works for faces and hair. It works - but I think it is not really my favorite. The surface is really rough and the colour is not so easy to lift as working on a smoother surface. I think I have better control when working on other surfaces. Size is 6x6 inch.

Cat in watercolor and a Hydrangea in progress

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

I believe I haven't post this small cat painting yet. I did it some weeks ago of my daughter's beloved cat. It is a watercolor painting in ACEO size (2,5 x 3,5 inch) on 140 Lb coldpressed paper.

Kit Cat, white and grey, watercolor painting, ACEO size, Original

The challenge was to not use any masking fluid or to use any other tools to save the whites. I simply painted around the white.

Currently I am working on another blue Hydrangea painting. Size is 12"x16" on 140 Lb coldpressed paper.

The blues and reds are created with Alizarin Crimson, Brillant Purple, Winsor blue (red shade) and Winsor blue (green shade). Blue Hydrangea - work in progress - Original watercolor painting by Doris Joa

I am not really sure at this moment what to do with the background.  Will post again soon.

New figurative painting with girl and a cat

"My Space", 16"x22"
watercolor on coldpressed paper

I just realized how many weeks are over since I have done my last post here.
I have done a lot of work on my website. I wanted to have something new when viewers do enlarge the images. So I used a "Lightbox" there, a wonderful tool. And I have mostly finished my shop there. Beside my Original painting I am also offering now small prints (around 8x10") of some of my paintings. I will add more in the next days. For more infos please visit my website and it is all explained there. Hope you like it.
I still have to do the german version, with which I also will start in the next days.

But here is my newest work. The idea behind my new painting is:
when the mail brought me a package my kids always loved to play with the cartonage. They had so much fun to climb in and to feel lost in their fantasy world.
Some weeks ago I got a package from my supplier and my daughter was again asking for the cartonage. It was her "castle" and when I came and wanted to look at her she did as when she would sleep. You can see a smile on her face. Our cat was also very curious about what was going on in this cartonage. Soon they are too old and they never will play in this way, so I thought it would be nice to bring this memory into a painting.

It is watercolor, painted on coldpressed paper, size is around: 16"x 22".
