Black Cat and a small woman head study

girl with brown curls - watercolor painting - fine art

The  small woman head study was painted on 340 Lb coldpressed paper. I just wanted to try how this paper works. I painted already some flowers on this paper, but I really wanted to figure out how it works for faces and hair. It works - but I think it is not really my favorite. The surface is really rough and the colour is not so easy to lift as working on a smoother surface. I think I have better control when working on other surfaces. Size is 6x6 inch.

For those who don't know my Rosesblog I want to show you one of my newest Rose paintings. It is a bit different than usual (especially in the background) and I really enjoyed working on it. It is painted on paper on stretcher bars, to read more about this Method please go to my Rosesblog by clicking here.

Some other News:

I have sent one of my Rose paintings to the Society of Botanical Artists in UK. And I am happy that it was selected for the Society of Botanical Artists Exhibition. This prestigious exhibition takes place at Westminster Central Hall, London from April 24th to May 3rd. I was not sure if this Rose painting would make it in, because it is no really botanical work. But I am happy that it is IN. Here is the painting:

By the way: This painting is one of the full Step-by-Step-Demonstrations in my E-book.

Some of my work was published in the Porch Magazine. The editors thought that my work would have the romantic feel for which they were looking for their Valentine's Issue.
I already have one copy of this Issue and I am very pleased with the quality of this Magazine and I am very thrilled that they are showing 6 of my paintings.

Three Roses

rose-amelita-6x6

I have worked more on Roses in the past week and although I have posted them in my Rosesblog I have decided to show them also here on my mainblog.

The first one is the newest Rose painting. The colour is a bit difficult to describe. It is not really pink, not really orange, not really red, it is a mix of that, the name of  the Rose is Amelita Renaissance.

And the two white Roses are of the Rose "Weiße Weihnacht", translated to "White Christmas".

All three paintings are done on 600 g (300 Lb) coldpressed Arches Watercolor paper, unstretched, and I really had fun painting them. The painting of one of the white Roses will also be in the E-book.

On a side note: I just have upgraded this blog to a new version and so far as I can see all seems to work perfect. But if you have with something trouble, please leave a comment here or email me and I will try to fix it. Thank you.

Edges

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

Yesterday I wrote in my post on my Rosesblog how I work with watercolors, when I want to put things  (here it were leaves) in the background that they are part of it and I have mentioned in other posts that I always soften the edges. With surfing a bit through Internet yesterday I found the blog of Karin Wells, an excellent portrait painter, who paints in oil. I have seen her work before, but did not know that she is also blogging. So I was very excited, because I knew she would share interesting things of her knowledge. And just yesterday she did a post about "How to turn an edge". She explains so well why to turn the edges and she demonstrates this with photos. What a great and helpful posting this is, I only can recommend to read this here.

And when you are there don't forget to read through her blog, because she gives a lot of helpful Tips.
