Hydrangea petals are full of delicate colour changes. Blues flow into violets, soft pinks meet fresh greens, and subtle lights and darks give every petal its individual shape. In this focused watercolor masterclass, I guide you through the painting process and show you how I create these luminous, multicoloured petals step by step.
You will learn how to build up transparent washes, blend warm and cool colours directly on the paper, and create gentle transitions without losing the freshness of the watercolor. I will also demonstrate how carefully placed veins, shadows and small details can bring the petals to life while keeping the painting soft and expressive.
We will look at both the larger foreground petals and the smaller surrounding blossoms. You will see how I use light and dark values to shape each petal, how I vary the colours throughout the flower, and how I connect the individual elements to create one harmonious hydrangea painting.
