The Story Behind the Painting
White flowers fascinate me because they are never simply white. When I looked closely at this peony, I discovered cool blue and violet reflections beside warm touches of yellow, apricot and soft rose. These quiet colour shifts were what made me want to paint it.
I began with transparent yellow and orange underwashes, allowing their warmth to glow gently through the later layers. Cool shadows and pale reflections gradually shaped the countless petals, while the deep greens and unopened buds created a rich, protective setting around the luminous flower.
What I wanted to preserve was not only the peony’s delicacy, but the way it seems to hold its own light. The finished painting feels calm and elegant, yet full of life – a large white bloom emerging softly from the garden shadows.

Colours & Atmosphere
Luminous white petals hold delicate reflections of blue, violet, yellow, apricot and soft rose. Deep layered greens and unopened buds surround the flower, giving the painting depth while allowing the peony to remain calm, radiant and unmistakably present.
Framing Recommendation
The painting is sold unframed, so you can choose a frame that suits your home. For lasting protection, I recommend professional conservation framing behind UV-filtering glass or acrylic, using an acid-free mat and reversible, archival mounting.
A custom frame is the best choice for this 56 × 76 cm artwork. As a starting point, a mat border of approximately 10 cm at the top and sides, with a slightly deeper lower border of about 12 cm, will give the flower room to breathe and create a beautifully balanced presentation. Your framer can adjust these proportions to suit the final frame and your interior.
