Small Paintings of Roses in watercolor

I think it is my Rose week. I have finished two small paintings of roses, both are in size 6×6 inch (15×15 cm).

The yellow Rose is painted on hotpressed Arches watercolor paper and the white Rose on Crescent Watercolor Board. Both surfaces are smooth, but the Crescent Watercolor Board is more forgiving.

For the shadows on the white Rose I used a mix of Alizarin Crimson, Phthalo Blue and Ivory Black. For the yellow I used Raw Sienna and for the deeper yellow I used Indian Yellow. To the mix above I also added the Raw Sienna, when the shadow was more yellowish/greenish. It really makes fun to paint white.

I will work on another Rose now. Rose paintings are always my favorites so you can be sure that there will come much more…
